Not sure whether you need Botox or dermal filler? Learn the key differences, benefits, and how to choose the right treatment for your goals.

The Question Everyone Asks

If you’re exploring aesthetic treatments for the first time, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Two of the most popular options—Botox and dermal fillers—are often mentioned in the same breath, but they treat very different concerns.

At Brilyn Medical Health & Anti-Aging, we’re here to help you understand your options, feel confident in your choices, and love the skin you’re in.

What Is Botox?

Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin that works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause expression lines. It’s most commonly used for:

  • Forehead lines

  • Frown lines (a.k.a. “11s” between the brows)

  • Crow’s feet around the eyes

Botox doesn't add volume — it smooths out movement-related wrinkles, giving you a softer, more rested look. Think of it as a way to pause the repetitive motions that create deep lines over time.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable gels—often made of hyaluronic acid—that restore volume, enhance facial contours, and smooth static wrinkles (the ones that appear even when your face is at rest).

Common filler treatment areas include:

  • Lips (for volume or shape enhancement)

  • Cheeks (to restore youthful fullness)

  • Smile lines (nasolabial folds)

  • Chin or jawline contouring

  • Under-eye hollows (tear troughs)

If Botox is about softening motion, filler is about restoring structure.

So, Which One Do You Need?

It depends on your goals.

Concern

Best Option

Forehead lines or crow’s feet

Botox

Loss of volume in cheeks or lips

Filler

Deep smile lines (parentheses)

Filler (or both!)

Tired, angry, or tense appearance

Botox

Want overall facial balancing or lift

Filler (or combo)

Many clients benefit from both treatments, used strategically to enhance and rejuvenate the face in a natural, elegant way.

How Long Do Results Last?

  • Botox: 3 to 4 months on average

  • Filler: 6 to 18 months depending on the area and product used

Both are non-surgical, minimally invasive, and customizable to your unique face and goals.
